What are we going to do at the Business Orientation Days?
Workshop 1: Deals
Workshop 2: Financial Risk Management
KPMGs Financial Risk Management has a wide variety of clients, from local insurance companies to banks operating in the worldwide market. Therefore, new projects always come with a lot of interesting challenges, just as the case that is presented today! A prominent bank has come to KPMG as they want to make a purchase decision with regards to acquiring a new mortgage portfolio, and they already have a few options. They seek advice on the accompanying credit risks of this purchase decision. Because, although mortgages seem like a good investment, you can never be too thorough in your diligence.
But the bank doesn’t only ask for credit risk advice, there are more aspects of interest before making the final call. Because how will this purchase decision will impact their capital requirements? Would it be beneficial to calculate these capital requirements using an internally developed model? And how do you know for sure that this model internally developed model is performing well? Therefore, we will also investigate the validation of this model, as a second part of the case. But before returning to the client, KPMG will also consider potential other risks that could impact the solvency of the mortgage portfolio. Because what if these houses are subject to climate-related risks, such as floods? Based on all these findings, we ask you to pitch your own recommendations to the client. Which mortgage portfolio is – in your opinion – the best option?
